Alright I think Telus is out of there mind. Since when do you need a business phone line and a business internet package to get a Static IP address. I'm not running a website i just like to know my IP address so i can access my computer remotely without having to use a dynamic IP address service.
I spoke with Telus today and they explained to me that my Office Package doesnt qualify for a static IP Address and for me to upgrade to a server package (26 dollars a month more) I need to ALSO upgrade my phone line from a residential line to a business line, as per new company policy regarding internet business accounts... Alright That seems a little bit retarded.
So here is a nice letter I wrote to Telus. I dont think I will get a reply and i plan on also sending a paper copy to them.
(Oh, did I mention i have been a customer since BC Tel Days )
Complaint… I am extremely upset with the current services and flexibility of the services offered with Telus. It seems that more and more everyday your company is being geared towards making more money and not actually taking the time to respond to the customers needs. This is a mistake, you may hold a monopoly over the market but more and more everyday your being replaced via cellular phones and sub standard cable companies (Shaw)
Recently I have been looking for a static IP address and it seems that I cannot get one because 1. My phone line is not a business line, and 2. My Internet is not a good enough package.
This to me is silly, IP address assignments are not a complicated matter, in the past it used to be you wanted a static IP Address on either Dailup or Highspeed it was a 15 dollar charge for the techs to add it to your account. Might I also add it’s about a 30 second process…
I was talking to a business representative today and even though I have a Business Internet Package I do not qualify for a static IP address because my internet package is not a server package. So for a static IP Address I need to pay an extra 25 dollars a month for internet and I don’t even know how much for upgrading to a business phone line. The price information is no longer listed on the website it just lists a phone number to call.
Now I am not running a business I just like the ability to access my computer when I am out of town, why should I have to incur an added expense just to have access to something as simple as a static IP Address?
I am really disappointed with Telus lately, The complete lack of customer service is starting to get a little out of hand… I am all for companies trying to make a profit on services offered, but some flexibility within that service would be nice. I wouldn’t think assigning someone an IP address was so much trouble, it doesn’t cost Telus any money.
I hope someone can respond to me with a possible solution that isn’t going to involve changing my entire phone system. If not, I have no problems switching internet providers and cancelling my phone all together and just using my cell phone. There are two internet companies in the area that are willing to provide me with a static IP address if I so choose, and without paying an arm and a leg for it! Shocking eh…
Anyways I look forward to hearing from someone soon.
Thanks and have a nice day.
